about

The ear of Dionysius is a cave in the Mediterranean city of Syracuse. The cave is carved into the limestone on Temenites hill, and directly connected through a small hole to an ancient amphitheatre. The cave got its name from the painter Michelangelo da Caravaggio, due to its construction and shape like an ear, . The name is likewise linked to the acoustic effects inside the cave. Acoustics that are said to resonate up to 16 times.

The new album from Economy of Meaning is centred around the ear of Dionysus, both as a specific location and temporary link between a series of recordings from Sicily in the autumn of 2022, including a live concert from the city of Enna. The sounds pan between the grotto walls, between places and experiences. Between moments and narratives, woven together in a montage of impressions and expressions.
